Tomoko had just bought herself a new witchcraft book.

It was an interesting find - lots of new potions that can be done with minimal effort - and some of the ingredients are quite easy to find, too.

Now if only she knew where to get fresh newt toes...

It didn't take Tomoko too long to get back to him (ten minutes, at the most), though now she's carrying a smaller bottle containing the newt toes that she needed. She was looking pleased about her purchase though.

Seeing Ryusei where she left him, Tomoko thought about surprising him - and so she took a route opposite of the one before, intending on tapping him from behind. She could be very quiet in her approach, even when the store's atmosphere was already relatively somber. She grinned, then reached out to touch him.

What should he do? He'd been keeping an eye on Tomoko while she made her purchase (even when her ribbon had been all he'd been able to see), and had seen her take another way back. Since he was prepared to listen for her footsteps, he could guess where she was from the sound. And from the pauses between steps, it sounded like she was tiptoeing.

Maybe he was wrong? Probably it would be condescending to fake surprise, though. "Ah— Tomoko-chan." He turned around. "Are you ready?"

"...you knew I was coming?" It was ironic that she ended up being the one surprised here. "Ryusei-san, you're really good!"

JK always fell prey to her surprise appearances. Even Yuuki and Haru as well, sometimes even Kengo too - though he often masked his surprise with a cough and an irate look her way. She thought she could get away with Ryusei as well...

Then again, Tomoko hadn't tried her skill with Kamen Riders before. Maybe she shouldn't be surprised that his senses were, in fact, very sharp - sharper than most she knew.

She probably would have done it if it were a normal situation—he'd lost track of her footsteps more than once. It was just.... He'd made sure to listen extra carefully when he'd lost sight of her, just in case.

He didn't know how to express that, though. Was it appropriate to say that he'd been watching her? Probably not. "Uh— Yeah," he said hesitatingly. "I guess so. ... Should we go?"

"Mm." There wasn't anything left for her to do here anyway. "Let's go."

Tomoko pushed the door open again and stepped out. A part of her was disappointed that her errand was now finished, but another was glad that it happened anyway. "Thank you very much for coming with me here," she said quietly. "Ryusei-san sure is very nice."

Well, it wasn't like he'd gone out of his way or anything. "No problem. I'll...see you at your birthday?"

She smiled at him and nodded. "I'll look forward to it. You can bring Jirou-san along, if you want."

Heh. "He doesn't know anyone. I think it'd be awkward for him." Introducing the people he cared about most to each other was tempting, but sticking one person into a semi-large group didn't seem a good idea if that person wasn't infiltrating the group. ...Or something like that?

"Besides, I'd...rather spend your birthday paying you attention than babysitting my friend." Ha, Jirou would cry if he'd heard Ryusei refer to him like that. More importantly, uh. Quick, think of something to take that statement back if Tomoko didn't take it well!

Tomoko stared at him for a moment. Then, she shook her head quickly. "N-No, Ryusei-san, you... you don't have to do that." Ryusei paying her too much attention would probably make her feel horribly awkward and embarrassed... kind of what she was feeling right now.

In the end, Ryusei couldn't think of anything. Well, at least he'd said it. "... I'll see you then," he said with an embarrassed smile as he turned toward home.

She stayed where she was and watched him walk away from her, hugging her book to her chest. "...be careful, Ryusei-san," she whispered, though more to herself than to him.

After a few moments, Tomoko then turned and walked away, too.
