[ it was something she hadn't expected at all. she'd come from almost a month-long visit to terabinthia, and as a result susan had terribly missed all her siblings. but the trip home had been tumultuous at best and when the gates of narnia welcomed her party, it was already past midnight - far from the early afternoon she'd promised in her letter. she was certain everyone was resting, or asleep by now.
so when susan walked into the grand halls, it was with great surprise that she beheld this sight. ]
[Queen Susan's presence had been sorely missed in the Narnian court, and as such, a feast had been planned accordingly for her return. When it became clear that her party had been delayed, the feast was moved to the next day. That, however, hadn't stop Peter from stringing the great hall with lights (with the help of a few sparrows) so that Susan wouldn't be greeted with darkness, no matter how late she arrived. One end of the table is laden with cheeses, cold meats, bread and apples, with an accompanying goblet of wine.
Peter is the only one waiting, having sent Edmund and Lucy to their chambers after they repeatedly yawned. When Susan speaks, he looks up from his book with a smile and stands to greet her.]
Su! I am glad to see you have arrived safely.
[He walks over to embrace her, and then to escort her to the table.]
I thought you might be famished after such a long journey.
[ she returned the embrace with much joy, and linked her arm with his as he escorted her to the table. from the corner of her eyes she saw the lights around her were strung a bit haphazardly - peter wasn't certainly one with a flare for this kind of things, and it certainly showed. of course, that only made his efforts all the more endearing.
susan took her seat at the side, and waited for her brother to take his seat at the head of the table - a place reserved only for the high king. ]
Oh Peter, Queens never get famished. They are much too regal for such tendencies. [ this was uttered with an unqueenly roll of her eyes. that's what Madeline, her fawn tutor on queenly behavior, always told her - which susan secretly thought was a load of rubbish.
she reached for a slice of bread and a piece of cheese. ] But this is certainly welcome after what we've gone through. I'm certain my entourage are quite hungry as well - do you suppose we should send most of these to them?
