[ the permission-granting missive from hyland arrived within a fortnight of its departure. sergei read its contents, sighed in relief, then folded it and placed it in his pocket. he then informed his men of the good news.
soon, they were on their way to ladylake.
it was odd, he thought, that his men, when granted a one-day reprieve from their duties, would collectively choose to go to a foreign land than stay within the confines of their country. then again, that was perhaps why they chose to do so. hyland had been long considered an alien land - filled with men and women whose tales of evil deeds would make any church-abiding citizen's skin crawl, and would make the strongest of men desire to purge them from the world. however, they were soon to learn that this was not so. indeed, the hyland folks were just like them - struggling to survive and live in a place once filled with hate and malevolence.
odd, indeed, how times had changed, ever since the arrival of the shepherd and the blessed seraphim.
soon, sergei and his men could see the silhouette of the city. a few hours travel more, and they would be entering ladylake. and so, a certain thought entered sergei's mind: is she there?
he shook his head to clear it, and yet the persistent, yearning thought remained.
as well as the hope that, indeed, she would be. ]

[Only her two hand picked bodyguards suspected the true reason for the shift, and they only acknowledged it through knowing smiles and raised eyebrows. They kept the crowds at bay as a handful of citizens shouted their adoration(and, in some cases, jeered her), as the small group made their way to the front gates.]
[It's only proper to meet them as they arrive, Alisha said. And true, it made sense. No doubt some self styled hero would see Rolance soldiers walking toward the castle and decide to defend the honor of Hyland themselves. But her interests went far beyond the realm of politics. She'd once heard about the feeling of butterflies in the stomach, but for Alisha it felt like a swarm of unruly crows running roughshod. She looked forward to seeing him again, and this time without the added tension of a room full of politicians.]
[She'd mapped out a few activities, places of interest they might visit throughout the kingdom, but of course she'd change those plans if he showed interest in anything else. And surely he'd be tired after such a long journey! Had she planned too much? On the other hand, was it too little? She fidgeted in place, adjusted her gauntlets, turned to ask if her hair looked okay. It was fine, they assured her. Fidgeting turned to swaying turned to pacing, as she kept looking to the opposite side of the bridge. Yet it was when she checked the condition of her spear(for the fifth time... alas, she'd been convinced to take it with her) that one of her knights announced a large party had just appeared.]
[And she looked, trying to catch sight of him, no doubt at the party's lead.]

there's a slight murmur from behind him as the city loomed large before them. sergei exchanged nods with his sergeant before urging his horse to move faster - but not too fast, he thought; he shouldn't appear too eager, despite knowing that he was. still, something akin to excitement throbbed in his skin, and it was only through sheer force of will that such feeling was kept carefully hidden under his bones.
he shouldn't hope. after all, this travel was not made on formal grounds; they shouldn't even expect a proper welcome. Odds were that the gates were opened for them, and that a lone soldier - perhaps two, at the most - would come to receive them and--
is that the princess? his most sharp-eyed knight said, and instantly sergei was on the alert. he knew better than to question the man, whose sense of sight had saved their lives more than he could count. then it must be true; princess alisha herself had come to welcome them.
why? he asked himself. she shouldn't have. but he could not deny that he was glad she was there.
for a moment a smile almost threatened to break through his lips. instead, he held the reins on his horse tighter. ] Look alive, men. We are to be welcomed by the most beloved princess of Hyland, as it seemed. I will not have the Platinum Knights enter Ladylake in a form less than is expected from us. Look alive!
[ his men cheered behind him, and at last sergei allowed himself to smile, his eyes on the figure of the princess. only a few minutes more. ]

[Of course, this wasn't a formal visit, but a chance for the citizens of Hyland to meet and see that the visitors from Rolance were ordinary people like them, that might be more important than any negotiation. If she'd learned anything from her time with Sorey, it was that there was more to fighting than the sword and spear. To overcome malevolence required just as much from the heart.]
[Those thoughts let her deny the excitement at seeing the commander of the Platinum Knights, but it returned to the surface as soon as she indeed saw him at the lead. The very picture of a proper knight, as though the ideals from the storybooks she'd read growing up had come to life. She felt a sudden flush of heat in her cheeks, and an instant later one of the bodyguards gave her a playful elbow and reminded her to keep her cool. "Never let them see you sweat," she said. Alisha could at least pretend she meant the rivals from Rolance in general.]
At attention, all of you! Let's show these knights their proper respect. [In spite of herself, she gave a playful smile.] Allies or not, I'll not have the Platinum Knights and Sir Sergei showing us up in our own city! [That might've even been loud enough for Sergei to hear as he drew close. Which might've been Alisha's intention.]

he exchanged amused glances with his sergeant, and as a single troop they crossed the bridge leading to ladylake's gates. sergei reined in his horse at a respectable distance from where the hyland force stood, then dismounted quickly, with his own men following suit. appearances were something he held little value for, but a tiny, negligible part of him wished that he still looked in order, despite the hours they have spent traveling on land, as he walked even closer to those waiting for them. after all, he did not wish to sully the name of rolance, which he and his men would forever carry with them be they on official business or not. they was little time to worry about that now, it seemed.
his eyes swept over hyland's finest, his expression perfectly neutral, before settling on the lady before him; only then did his neutral expression melt into friendly countenance. ] Princess Alisha. [ he bowed before her, then offered a hand in greeting. ] I am honored that you have come to see our arrival. I hope we have not taken you from much worthier tasks?
no subject
It's a pleasure to see you again, Sir Sergei. I hope that your journey here was pleasant, or at least uneventful. [She brushed a few stray strands of hair away from her face and smiled. If the ride to Ladylake did anything to mar Sergei's appearance, Alisha showed no sign of noticing it.] Greeting out newfound friends from Rolance is a task I welcome, especially when you come to our city as honored guests.
[She turned briefly to his men, and bowed to all of them as well.] You are all welcome and free to tour our city as you please. And I've made arrangements with the tavern by the gate to take care of all your meals while you're here. I'm certain some of my knights would be more than happy to show you around.
[That formality out of the way, she turned her attention back to Sergei. Her posture relaxed as she tilted her head slightly to one side.] And what of you, Sir Sergei? Did you have any particular plans for your stay?
no subject
he was surprised, however, that she seemed to have personally seen to the needs of his men for this little trip. surely that was not a task befitting of her rank...? ] I thank you, Lady Alisha, for your kindness and generosity. My men and I truly appreciate it.
[ he then turned to his sergeant. ] Keep an eye on them, and see to it that they will behave accordingly. [ not that sergei doubted they would, but he knew them well enough - especially after imbibing alcohol that the tavern no doubt served. to his men he said: ] Take good care that your actions in Ladylake reflect well of Rolance. I expect to see you all in time tomorrow.
[ there. his men dismissed, he turned his attention to the princess. her question had him caught off-guard, a bit. ] I admit, it's a question I have not given much thought on. I had assumed I will be where my men shall be expected. It... betrays my lack of foresight for this trip, I'm ashamed to say. [ it's said in jest, though, and his expression betrayed as much. ] Would you have any recommendations, my lady? I'll be more than willing to listen to them.
no subject
It would reflect poorly on our kingdom and our people if any of you experienced undue hardship during your time here. [Taking a cue from Sergei, she turned back to her own detachment of soldiers.] And I expect the same behavior from each of you. I know that some of you have a tendency to use celebration as an excuse for... shall we say, less than becoming behavior?
[With the crowd starting to disperse around them, it seemed as though her confidence waned. She ducked her head and glanced back over her shoulder, the whole of Ladylake stretching out behind them.] Well, perhaps a tour would be in order? I've no further obligations today. U-unless of course, you're hungry after your journey here. It's said that no journey to Ladylake is complete without trying the grilled sweetfish.
[She hesitated a moment, offering up a sheepish smile as she added:] And... if you wish, you can just call me Alisha. Since this is an informal visit, there's no need for formal titles.
no subject
ahem. sergei glanced behind them. already he could see his men - and some of the hyland knights - pile into the tavern near the gates. it's a reminder that, despite their armor, they were mostly still boys looking for merriment whenever they could. then again, didn't they all? especially now that they were more or less able to do so. ] You need not worry about me. My men and I ate during the journey - though I suppose now that our journey's over, they are quite hungry for a different type of nourishment. [ ...for alcohol. and perhaps for whatever other type of entertainment ladylake offered that could not be found in rolance. he crossed his arms behind him. ] I would, however, appreciate a tour. I believe I have yet to see more of Ladylake's beauty outside its meeting halls and corridors - the grilled sweetfish can wait.
[ he gave her a sidelong glance. well. good thing she was in those meetings - at least he didn't have to always look at stuffy, crusted faces for so long. and to think she was offering to be his tour guide! what a blessed journey this was turning out to be. but he did not want to presume too much on her kindness. ] Shall we be joined by others for this tour?
no subject
[Thankfully Alisha had also set up some fairly strict limits on how much alcohol could be served to the visiting knights(as well as her own). She'd rather not take chances of any sort of incident. She quickly put those thoughts behind her and turned her attention back to Sergei.] Many would say those are some of our city's less appealing features.
[For a moment, his question caught her off guard, and at first she stammered in her reply.] Well, I... I hadn't thought to offer. [She looked back at the tavern, and let out a sigh of relief.] It does appear the tavern's a far more interesting sight for the rest of your men. I hope you won't be too disappointed in this being a private tour? [And... there was that flush in her cheeks again.]
no subject
but, again, those thoughts are better kept to himself for now. he would, however, give her another sidelong glance. ] A private tour of Ladylake from its beloved princess? I can think of no other better accommodation for a simple knight such as I. [ there's a quickening in his pulse that's best left unacknowledged, he thought. surely this was something alisha extended to new friends of hyland - surely there was no need to think on it differently.
and yet--
banish the thought. ] Where may we start?
no subject
[All those compliments were wearing her down bit by bit, helping her feel more at ease. She smiled sheepishly at him.] There are, of course, guides with more experience would could tell you the story of Ladylake in great detail. Though... some, perhaps, give too much detail. I doubt you want to know the cornerstone inscriptions on every building. And there are people in this town who are exceedingly proud of the Great Waterwheel. [
Seriously, did the man who stood there every day have an actual job?All of that distracted from the simple fact she'd never given a tour before. This could get interesting.][But, to paraphrase a great Hylandian philosopher, she needed to talk about what she knew. That gave her an obvious starting point.] Perhaps we could start with the Great Sanctuary of the Sacred Blade? It would give you a chance to see where it all began for Sorey's tenure as Shepherd.
no subject
DO ALL THOSE NPCs HAVE JOBS THO ADMITTEDLY THAT'S A GOOD QUESTION TO PONDER ONsergei smiled at the thought. aye, certainly there were people who loved history too much that they would not waste an opportunity to prattle on it in detail. there were certain ways of showing how one loved their own country - and discussing them in great lengths to people who might want to listen was certainly one of them. ] I believe it is good to have pride in one's own landmarks. Certainly there are similar people in Pendrago who might be able to discuss the history of our Shrinechurch with only the slightest provocation. [ not that sergei didn't know it already. still... ] I'd be willing to listen to the details, so long as you're the one telling them.[ wait. that was... that wasn't too forward, was it? certainly sergei wasn't practiced at the art of flirting. but could that be considered flirting? good thing alisha brought up sorey - the shepherd was always a good topic of discussion, in sergei's opinion. ] I will be honored to see the Great Sanctuary of the Sacred Blaze. Is it true that he had pulled out the sword out of the bedrock without much effort at all?
no subject
The cities pay them to spout facts to random tourists...The truth was that Alisha found ruins to be a far more interesting subject than the history of Ladylake, but that might have something to do with growing up within its walls. That brief thought vanishes at that... compliment? Such a word feels a little mild to describe it, particularly with how it makes her feel. A strange combination of nervous and giddy. She felt glad for the mention of Pendrago to distract her for a moment.] It would be fascinating to see the Shrinechurch as well. Perhaps you could return the favor by giving me a tour there, at some point? [WAIT. Did she just...?][Sorey, yes! Sorey!] It was rather chaotic at the moment, but it seemed to happen with ease. He never said as much, but I wonder if Lailah's powers somehow held the blade in place? [She stops and glances back at Sergei with a slight frown.] You were never able to actual meet Lailah or the other seraphim, were you? [She'd never really asked if Sorey had helped them to communicate with anyone else... well, besides Rose, of course.]
no subject
that sounded lucrative with very minimal effort where should he sign upsergei straightened himself. he didn't even think of repaying her this favor! what a thoughtless person he was. he then resolved to rectify this wrongdoing most immediately. ] Why yes, I'll be honored to personally tour you around Pendrago. If your schedule may permit it, perhaps I may show you other nearby areas in Rolance? Have you been to Aifread's Hunting Grounds? [ wait. he's getting ahead of himself, wasn't he. back to hyland, then.and yes, sorey! yes! sorey! the shepherd was most always a great way to divert his attention. ] No, I have not the opportunity to meet with and see the blessed Seraphim. When Sorey arrived in Lastonbell, it was only him and his wife that I spoke to. But, looking back on it, the Seraphim were most assuredly with him that day.
[ how odd sorey's actions were. could that be influenced by the seraphim? ] 'Lailah' is one of them, then?

If you act now, they'll send you this FREE "How To Earn Money and Repeat Yourself Constantly" book, which tells you how to get extra cash by talking to adventurers in your spare time! It's just SO easy! That sounds like a wonderful opportunity to explore so much more of the world outside of Ladylake. Perhaps they could even work in visits to some of the famous ruins... but, she's getting ahead of herself.] I'm certain I could make time during my next official visit... or perhaps I could schedule an unofficial one, so long as it didn't inconvenience you. I've heard of the Hunting Grounds, but I was never able to see them in person.[For a moment, Alisha stares at him blankly. Wife? If he wasn't able to see the seraphim, and indeed didn't even know Lailah, than who on Earth could he be-- You could see the moment realization dawned on her, a subtle mixture of shock and amusement with perhaps a little touch of anger. Rose, what in the name of the Seraphim did you DO? Some might have skillfully covered up their confusion, but Alisha instead stammered a few times before spitting out an answer.] R-right. His... wife. Of course! They... would have been traveling together at that time.
[She was going to have to ask someone about this whole affair the next chance she got.] Yes. From what I understand she resided within the Sanctuary for some time, where we revered her as the Lady of the Lake. I know he would have had at least one other with him at the time, perhaps one or two others as well. I never had a chance to ask him much of his travels beyond Hyland.

HOW MUCH IS THE WHOLE PACKAGE WHERE SHOULD HE CALL TO AVAIL ITsergei nodded. ] Official or not, rest assured that I would welcome a visit from you, Alisha. [ pause. AND BECAUSE THAT SOUNDED TOO... ] As would most of Rolance, I believe. You have gained quite a number of admirers in Pendrago. [ some of them were in platinum knights, too. awkward. ...in the sense that sergei could hear them talking about her instead of doing something more productive in their free time, yes. ]And the Hunting Grounds are home to ancient ruins that may be of interest to you. I believe there may also be available game in the area that may test your mettle, should you wish to. [ there were beasts filled with malevolence before that even the platinum knights were not able to quell. fortunately, with the lord of calamity defeated, those no longer loitered the area.
there was a mixture of expressions on her face that he could not interpret. had he said something inappropriate about the shepherd's wife? ] Yes, they were. I believe Rose was always by his side. Quite appropriate, given her place in his life. I wonder how she is, now. [ how did she feel, seeing her husband give his life up for a worthy cause? poor rose. ]
Have you talked with the Seraphim, yourself?
no subject
He's in luck, there's a FREE seminar in his area! But he'd better call and reserve space, seating is limited! Ignore that the meeting takes place on a pirate ship...] I would be honored to visit once again. It's a beautiful kingdom, from what I've been able to see of it. [And, almost as if on cue, a pair of young ladies walked past and looked at Sergei and blushed and giggled. Alisha raised an eyebrow.] Though perhaps I'm not the only person who has admirers in another kingdom? [Is... she actually teasing him?]I would welcome both those opportunities. My spear has felt too idle since these peace negotiations began. N-not that I miss war! But I should remain in practice, to defend the people of both kingdoms. It might be an interesting... [
DATE?] ...joint operation by our forces.[There's going to be a long discussion in the future with a certain someone... though it's possible they had to use such a trick to gain entry to Rolance? Perhaps, but she would have thought Sorey or Rose would have cleared the matter up at some point...] Y-yes, quite appropriate. Yes. [She wondered how much she could tell him, of Sorey's true fate or what had become of Rose since then. Perhaps best to omit anything that might be problematic.] She's tried to carry on his work. I've seen her a few times since. Even worked alongside her once.
I was once pledged as a Squire to the Shepherd. He loaned me a fraction of his power, in exchange for my aid. Thus I was able to see and hear the Seraphim without Sorey's direct help. They are surprisingly like us! [Specifically, she thought of how Sorey and Mikleo would bicker and mock fight. They... really could be like children, at times.]
[They'd finally reached the top of the stairs and the small courtyard in front of them ended in the now visible shrine. It looked much the same as it had since she was a child, saw a pair of new banners in blue and white, with the symbol of the Shepherd upon them. It felt appropriate to honor Sorey in some fashion there.]
no subject
there's a pirate ship??? could this be van eltia IS IT HAUNTED IT IS ISN'T ITthe giggles caught his attention and curiously, sergei glanced at them. it's not an uncommon occurrence for women in his kingdom to also do that in his presence, though in his experience it was boris who got more attention from women - perhaps because he was the more charming brother. as always, thoughts of his brother made him more somber than usual. if only he'd stopped boris from pursuing his private investigation of cardinal forton. if only--he shook his head imperceptibly to clear his melancholic thoughts, and instead forced out a short chuckle. ] I'd hazard that they find my armor interesting. I've been told it makes us look formidable, even without saying anything. Or, perhaps they are wondering what I am doing, walking alongside their princess? [ the idea that women might find him attractive would always be a foreign concept to him, courtesy of having not been the better-looking twin. ]
Ah, yes. Joint operations by our forces would be a good exercise. [ there's a part of him that earlier envisioned
justthe two of them doing game-hunting, and once it's on his mind, it was hard to let go of. ] Most certainly it would be a good way of ensuring that our men are in the peak of health and able to defend our people should the need arise.[ he sighed. he didn't have much interactions with rose but he could tell that she was quite an extraordinary woman. to have lost her beloved in so early a time... ] I'm afraid I have not seen much of the Shepherd's wife these past few months. I would welcome any visit from her, should she come to Pendrago.
[ when she spoke of being loaned the shepherd's power, sergei couldn't help but turn towards her in amazement. ] Were you, now? And yet I do not doubt it. Only the most honorable and worthy could be pledged as Squires of the Shepherd - and I am not surprised that you have been one of them. [ and he meant it, truly. alisha was proving to be one hell of a woman.
the banners had soon caught his attention, and another wave of sadness hit him. ] Has it really been so long since Sorey left us?
[ it was rhetorical question, more directed towards himself that at alisha. but the sentiment was the same. ]
no subject
If they are and the current crew has resorted to Ponzi schemes, Eizen would be very disappointed.Unaware of the brief dark turn his thoughts took, Alisha offered him a playful smile.] Perhaps, but it's also true that even on patrol, knights of Hyland aren't often seen without their helmets. It might be seen as a desirable choice, depending on the knight. Though I've no doubt that there will be no end of gossip seeing the pair of us walking together. It's a sad fact of royal life. [She turned to regard him a moment.] Though it is also a fascinating suit of armor.[She'd... actually thought the same thing, but in her haste to come up with an innocuous description, she made it a bit too innocuous.] No doubt it would quickly turn to a friendly competition between our men. Well, I hope it would be friendly, at least!
[No doubt Rose's new calling would take her to Pendrago at some point, but...] The next time I speak with her, I shall tell her as much. [Part of her wants to make sure that conversation includes some version of "Tell him the truth!" ...but that would lead to more awkward questions.]
And once again you honor me with your praise. I served him only a short while, but it was perhaps the greatest honor of my life. To have played even a small part in his great work was a blessing.
[She remained silent for some time. Sorey wasn't gone, at least not in the sense Sergei thought. Yet the chances that she would see him again were practically nonexistent.] In the Celestial Record, there were passages that said the Shepherd was never truly gone, that his spirit would continue to watch over us. That his example would guide us. I hope that we can make him proud, together.
no subject
at this time his laugh was more sincere, at least. ] I won't be surprised if it does. Nonetheless, we should establish some sort of rules to ensure that the competition will remain friendly. [ boys would be boys and all that, after all.
pause. sergei found himself nodding. ] To have known Sorey is in itself a blessing. I count myself worthy to have him consider me a friend. It is quite an example he has set upon us all - but I've no doubt that we will strive to continue his good work. Together.
[ such a loaded word, together. but of course alisha's choice of words did not necessarily mean only the two of them, did it? ]
no subject
[Alisha nodded, pressing a finger against her chin as she considered it.
And clearly not trying to come up with a suggestion that would mean the soldiers would remain away, at least for a time.] Perhaps, since you are familiar with the area, I could accompany you on an advanced scouting mission? To try and set up the ground rules?I'm certain that would make him happy, to know he helped to broker peace and bring people closer. After all, I never would have met you, had it not been for his actions.
[Together. It seemed like he put an equal emphasis on that word. Of course, the part of her brain that held on to those rumors as well as those brief flickers of doubt, assumed he only meant the kingdoms as one. She still cursed herself for having such ridiculous thoughts, that her time with Sergei meant anything more than the furthering of peace. Even if she did enjoy her time with him, and thoughts of him might cause her undue embarrassment, and--]
[SPEAKING OF UNDUE EMBARRASSMENT... she's so caught up with her thoughts that she's not paying as much attention as she should. The toe of her boot catches a loose cobblestone in the road. She makes a valiant effort to catch her balance, but it's no good... unless a certain kind knight were to step up and help, maybe?]
no subject
his thoughts scrambled to a halt when alisha lost her balance. because of course he's trained to almost a fault to act immediately in face of threats, he'd quickly made efforts to ensure that she would not fall flat on her face against the pavement.
...this, of course, entailed that he put his arms around her - one arm over her shoulders, the other under and clutching her hand. ] Princess Alisha! Are you alright? [ perhaps certain people would've thought him holding the princess this way was a tad inappropriate. but her very life was at stake! surely protocol could be foregone this moment? ]
no subject
[She'd fully expected to hit the ground. Not enough to cause any damage save a few scuffs to her armor and maybe a skinned knee, but that armor would have made enough of a racket to draw the eyes of everyone in the open air market around them. It took her a good few seconds to realize she'd stopped just short of the cobblestone, and a few more to realize what had happened.]
[Sergei saved her, perhaps not from death but from profound embarrassment.]
[...and he did so with his arms, which were... well, holding her up at the moment. Which was to be expected. How else would be catch her? She looked over to see one of the local merchants applauding. Oh, sweet seraphim.]
[When she finally turned back to Sergei, her face had turned a shade of red that might not occur in nature. And while she forced a very sheepish smile, she wanted to just crawl into a hole. Of course, she couldn't, because Sergei was still holding onto her. And while she grappled with her embarrassment, it probably looked to all the world like she was staring at him, looking deeply into his eyes. Well, they were nice, kind and full of life and--]
I... I don't appear to be injured, thanks to you. [Was there something else she should ask him to do? She can't remember... which is probably why she hadn't yet gotten back to standing on her own just yet.]
no subject
not that he'd ever admit it, because that might cross boundaries he didn't want to overstep.
and yet he still held on to her, for fear of her safety and just to be certain. ] Perhaps I should accompany you to the infirmary? The heat must have affected you, my lady. Perhaps it will be best if you're to rest for the remainder of the day. I can see to the needs of my men.
[ as he spoke, he will just - oh so slowly - remove his hold on her. but of course he would remain nearby just in case she needed support. certainly his visit to ladylake would be less bright without her, but her health should come first. ]
no subject
[Not that Alisha has really paid him that much mind, because it's a little distracting for her to be this close to Sergei. She's actually a little surprised. If another knight were to try and stop her fall, they might have been more forceful. Yet Sergei had caught her gracefully, gently. It wasn't unpleasant. In fact, she found it comforting, in a strange way... and then all at once, she remembered Lailah's word in the museum. Unladylike!]
N-no! [The words came out more forceful than she intended. The last thing she wanted to do was end the tour! Taking a few seconds to compose herself, she turned back to Sergei and rubbed the back of her neck gently.] I appreciate your concern, but I merely tripped. [Then she added, with a playful smile:] If anything, you're guilty of being a wonderful person to talk to.
[Was... was that too much? This was the problem of having so few confidants in the kingdom. She wasn't quite sure what was appropriate to say in such company.]
no subject
the compliment drew a hesitant smile from him. ] I could say the same to you, Alisha. I feel as though we could talk for hours over many things. [ it helped that they seemed to have many things in common. ]
no subject
Oh, you think so? Then perhaps after the tour, we could have dinner at my estate? [WAIT. DID SHE JUST--? YES. YES SHE DID.] Since... since we would run far less risk of being disturbed. [NOT MAKING IT ANY BETTER.] Of course, I would understand if that plan wasn't acceptable to you.
[Sorey told her some of the advantages of the "private" discussions with Lailah and her sublords. Where were the seraphim to help guide the conversation when she needed them?]
no subject
calm down, man. surely the princess was just being a gracious host. surely this offer need not mean anything other than a friendly invitation. surely-- ]
I would be honored to accept your invitation, Alisha. However... [ he looked down upon himself. ] I... do not seem to be appropriately clothed for such a night.
[ h-how do even royalties eat??? WHAT DO THEY WEAR THO ]
no subject
Well, it... needn't be anything formal, my estate is small and I doubt I could call upon anyone to prepare a meal in so short a time. You could even wear your armor, if you wanted to.
[She takes in a sharp breath, and balls her hands into fists. What she says next isn't an accident, but it takes courage for her to say it aloud.] This wouldn't be a diplomatic affair, Sergei. It would be a chance for us to get to know one another better. Just... just the two of us.
[There, she said it. But that could still be seen as just a friendly gesture, right? Just in case?]
