With the White Witch defeated and a sense of peace prevailing over Narnia, Peter has finally been able to settle into the role of High King. His days are filled with paperwork and foreign policies, many new councillors greeting him and begging his ear for new ideas. While this new role gave him a great sense of duty and responsibility, and like always, Peter rose to the challenge.
Sometimes, even though he has come to love the job Narnia has given him, he has to slip away. He is settled in one of the balconies today, overlooking the great sea of Narnia. He leans against he marble parapets, the sun warming his face, and the breeze cooling his skin. It's silent, save for the idle chatter of birds or the giggles of Lucy down below, dancing with the tree nymphs. His heart stirs in awe of the beautiful place. What a land he was given, he thinks when he is alone. And sometimes, he doubts Aslan's confidence in him.
He's just a boy. How is he supposed to take care of so many beautiful, wonderful things?

Not only does she have to learn about Narnia and its rich history, she has to learn about diplomacy as well. And not only that, but she has to learn how to dress and act like a queen - how to speak, how to move, even how to breathe as though she's been born into the role. And she wasn't! Sometimes Susan wants to remind them of this, yet by some miracle she manages to keep her mouth shut, and instead does what she's told.
Now she has a book in her hand, absorbed in reading its pages as she walks along the hall. Her tutor - a wily fox - has told her beforehand that she will be given a test today, and she doesn't want to fail it. A Queen does have her pride, after all.

"You'll walk into a wall if you keep that up, your Majesty."
There is a bit of playfulness in his voice and he smiles up at her. They likely don't even look the same as they did but months ago. Now dressed in Narnia's finest clothing, the lush velvets and silks, with the circlets of gold and jewels atop their heads.
"Do you ever stop reading, Susan?"
no subject
"It's not as if this is something I do for leisure, Peter," she says. Susan looks around her to see if anyone's listening. "Truth be told I'd rather play a word game than read this book." An impish look comes upon her face. "Would the High King like to indulge his sister?"

"A word game is hardly fit for a Queen and High King." Peter laughs softly and looks back over the view, a small flock of birds soaring up into the sky and diving back into the lush canopies.
"But I suppose I can indulge you. What sort of word game does the lady wish to play?" Another grin. Peter is in high spirits and feeling quite cheeky today.

But then she frowns a bit. "Although it's a bit difficult to play here, since their dictionaries are peppered with thousands of Narnian words that I've yet to learn about."
no subject
"Though if we did play it, they would only think we were studying the Narnian terms we do not know. They wouldn't realize we were playing a game. I think it is the cleverest form of deception."
Shrugging his shoulders, Peter glances over at his sister. "I suppose you'll have to study, then, until you cannot study any longer."
no subject
"Oh Peter. You're the High King. Can you not decree a day that will free us from these responsibilities? Just... just for one day." And as she says this Susan is so horribly aware of just how childish she sounds.
no subject
"Maybe one day, but I don't think it will pass, Susan. We have a lot to learn before we can do something like that, I think."
He nods his head, looking out over the landscape, "But you know, Susan, no one is around right now, and we could study while horse riding, don't you think? Verbal studying, of course. Maybe the adrenaline will help. What do you think?"
And there's Peter again, his hand outstretched to her, grinning.
