With the White Witch defeated and a sense of peace prevailing over Narnia, Peter has finally been able to settle into the role of High King. His days are filled with paperwork and foreign policies, many new councillors greeting him and begging his ear for new ideas. While this new role gave him a great sense of duty and responsibility, and like always, Peter rose to the challenge.

Sometimes, even though he has come to love the job Narnia has given him, he has to slip away. He is settled in one of the balconies today, overlooking the great sea of Narnia. He leans against he marble parapets, the sun warming his face, and the breeze cooling his skin. It's silent, save for the idle chatter of birds or the giggles of Lucy down below, dancing with the tree nymphs. His heart stirs in awe of the beautiful place. What a land he was given, he thinks when he is alone. And sometimes, he doubts Aslan's confidence in him.

He's just a boy. How is he supposed to take care of so many beautiful, wonderful things?

Susan is vaguely aware that being a queen requires one to be quite knowledgeable about so many things, but it still takes her by surprise that she is required to be knowledgeable about so many things.

Not only does she have to learn about Narnia and its rich history, she has to learn about diplomacy as well. And not only that, but she has to learn how to dress and act like a queen - how to speak, how to move, even how to breathe as though she's been born into the role. And she wasn't! Sometimes Susan wants to remind them of this, yet by some miracle she manages to keep her mouth shut, and instead does what she's told.

Now she has a book in her hand, absorbed in reading its pages as she walks along the hall. Her tutor - a wily fox - has told her beforehand that she will be given a test today, and she doesn't want to fail it. A Queen does have her pride, after all.

She takes a startled step backwards at the sound of his voice, and Susan looks up to see Peter... silently laughing at her. She purses her lips, then closes her book and hits him with it on the shoulder. "You startled me, you beast," she said, but it's without bite.

"It's not as if this is something I do for leisure, Peter," she says. Susan looks around her to see if anyone's listening. "Truth be told I'd rather play a word game than read this book." An impish look comes upon her face. "Would the High King like to indulge his sister?"

Susan outright grins at him - an act that will surely land her in hot water if ever her tutor in manners find out about it! "Oh, you suppose, do you?" she says. "Well, if the gentleman truly wants to know, the lady wants to play her favorite game, be it in the world inside the wardrobe or outside of it - the dictionary game." There. She knows how much Peter dislikes the game, though, and may only be offering it since she knows he will refuse.

But then she frowns a bit. "Although it's a bit difficult to play here, since their dictionaries are peppered with thousands of Narnian words that I've yet to learn about."

She enjoys studying, she truly does - more so than any of her siblings, probably. But here, in Narnia, there is a definite weight to all her actions, that if she fails at something not only will she suffer for it, but potentially the whole of their lands will be affected as well. It's something that she thinks is too much, at times.

"Oh Peter. You're the High King. Can you not decree a day that will free us from these responsibilities? Just... just for one day." And as she says this Susan is so horribly aware of just how childish she sounds.
